Gaselan DM2

This is an East German made engine; very solidly built. It's not the largest in my collection but, at the time of writing, it's certainly the heaviest! The large base is a single steel casting! Almost the whole engine is made of steel, with the exception of a few fittings.

It has a 230V electrically heated boiler, 80mm diameter x 200mm long. Typically of E German manufacture, the boiler is made of steel but of very heavy gauge. It has a water level gauge glass on the end, a pressure gauge (with lost markings), filler plug, weighted safety valve, whistle and regulator valve.

The cylinder is a double acting slide valve type; approx 10mm bore x 15mm stroke. It is non-reversing. It has a heavy steel flywheel, 90mm diameter.

The engine is in generally good condition. It has some minor rust spots on the base but negligible elsewhere. The paintwork appears to be original. There is a soldered repair on the top fitting of the water gauge, which could have been a bit neater but it's not too bad. The plunger in the safety valve is not original and has been replaced by a suitably sized screw.
