ADE is one of few Swedish steam toy manufacturers. As far as I know, ADE made only three or four models; a stationary engine (this one) and two or three tractors. The tractors are now very rare but the stationary less so. It is a small but neat model with a distinctive appearance.
The brass boiler is 48mm diameter x approx 60mm high. It sits on an aluminium wrap-around firebox. The front of the firebox is held together with a brass name plate. The burner is a single wick meths type made of brass. On the top of the boiler is a steam dome, which also houses the small safety valve. There is no water level indication or whistle.
Steam is fed directly from the side of the dome to the engine, without any throttle, lubricator or superheater. The engine is a single acting oscillating cylinder; 7.75mm bore x 17mm stroke. It has an unusual reversing mechanism. It consists of a movable port face sandwiched between the cylinder and the engine frame. This is moved by means of a lever on the frame.
Another interesting feature is the bearing at the crank end of the crankshaft, which is adjustable for wear in an unusual manner. At the other end if the crankshaft is a mazac (?) spoked flywheel, 39mm diameter. The engine frame is a two part bracket made of steel and brass. The whole is mounted on a pressed aluminium base.
