New Waat NW01

This is an interesting and unconventional engine. It is notable in that it has very few moving parts - even fewer than an oscillating cylinder.

The crankshaft is offset from the centre line of the cylinder so that at the mid point of the outward (power) stroke, the crank pin is on the centre line and on the inward (exhaust) stroke it is well above it. The piston is a thin disk, fixed on the connecting rod so, during the power stroke, the piston fills the bore but during the exhaust stroke it is tilted and steam escapes past it to atmosphere. It is rather inefficient because, during the exhaust stroke, steam is still entering the cylinder and escaping directly past the piston.

The bore is 9.3mm and the stroke is approx 6mm. The steam is fed directly to the back of the cylinder through a webbed section of tube which, as far as I can see, is purely decorative. This section, the cylinder itself and the bearing bracket are machined out a single block of brass. The flywheel is 30mm diameter with curved spokes.
