This is another miniature steam engine from Microcosm. It is similar in general layout to the Wilesco D2 but with several differences.
The boiler & engine assembly are supported on a tripod over a small glass meths burner. The boiler is 24mm diameter x 30mm high. It is a little tricky to fill as there is no safety valve or filler hole. The top end of the boiler unscrews from the rest of the barrel for filling (see bottom photo on the left). The port face for the single acting oscillating cylinder is fixed directly to the boiler top. The cylinder is 6mm bore x 9.5mm stroke and exhausts directly from the top of the port face through a very short pipe. This exhaust pipe has a flare on the end, which may be purely decorative or it may be intended to facilitate oiling the piston. The crankshaft has a 30mm diameter flywheel. The whole thing is made of brass except for some small parts made of stainless steel and the glass body of the burner.| Make | Microcosm |
