Founded in 1881 in Dereham, Norfolk (UK). They started selling steam engines made by Bowman in the 1930s. When Bowman stopped making steam engines, Mamod stepped in to take their place. Hobbies also sold a few steam engines made by other manufacturers such as Wilesco and Midwest. Hobbies still exists, selling mainly craft related products.
