A simple single oscillating cylinder stationary engine.
The boiler is quite small for the size of the cylinder, 38mm diameter x 94mm long, made of copper. The only fittings are a safety valve and a screw connection for the steam feed. There is no water level indication. It has a small tablet burner undeneath in the ample firebox.
Steam is fed directly to the back of the port face of a single acting oscillating cylinder; 8mm bore x 20mm stroke. The crank shaft has a simple crank at one end, a 7mm diameter pulley at the other and a 55mm diameter brass spoked flywheel in the middle.
There are indications that the boiler has been repaired at some time, with poor soldering. Paintwork has been redone by a previous owner.
As acquired, it did not run (on air or steam). The port face was in extremely poor condition and leaked steam massively. After lapping away the worst of the roughness, it now runs ok on air but poorly on steam. It might improve with running in but I suspect it would need a new one being made to get good performance.
